Over two sunny days in May our Duke of Edinburgh participants have successfully planned and walked over 25km in and around the North Downs. The group developed their map reading skills, assembled tents and cooked over camp stoves. Overall staff were impressed with the groups resilience and team work as they plodded on with their heavy bags. Over the course of the two days the staff supporting the groups gradually stepped back encouraging the group to make decisions and take responsibility for their own progress and safety. They really stepped up to the challenge and during the second day amended their route increasing their distance due to their fast pace. They ensured team spirits remained high with songs, jokes, stories and a seemingly endless supply of snacks! The group are now taking a well earned rest before planning their qualifying expedition in June.
